There are several tips which can be used to teach Mathematics to slow learners. Below i will share some of them.
1. Adopting one-on-one sessions
Some slow learners get intimidated by group lesson settings. When and if possible, you can work with them alone. Tailor the one-on-one sessions to their specific gaps, adjusting pace and methodology as you go.
2. Use simple language
Some complex terms such as "perform addition" e.t.c can confuse slow learners. Instead, you can use plain words such as "add these number". This helps reduce mental blocks and keep them focused.
3. Use real life examples
Relate math to their world to make it meaningful. For addition, say, “If you have 2 oranges and buy 3 more, how many do you have?
4. Praise effort, not just results
Slow learners often fear failure, so shift the focus to their effort. If they attempt 7 - 4 and get 2 instead of 3, say, “Great job trying! Let’s count it out together.” This builds their confidence and willingness to keep going.
5. Let them ask questions freely
Slow learners might hide confusion out of embarrassment, so encourage questions with a warm, “What don’t you understand? It’s okay to ask!”
