1. (a) What is an ‘organization chart’? Support your answer with a relevant example.

(b) State its essence in an organization.

(c) Name and briefly explain any three barriers to effective communication. (6 mks)
2. (a) Public speaking is a two way-traffic. Explain. (4 mks)
(b) Define and illustrate, with just one example, the following notions.

(iii) Stage Fright (2 mks)
3. What do you understand by the following categories of information sources?
(a) Primary sources (2 mks)
(b) Secondary sources (2 m ks)

4. (a) Describe the concept of selective attention as it applies to both the audience members
and speaker of the message. (6 mks)
(b) Explain how a listener can overcome the following obstacles to listening:

ii) Internal dialogue (2 mks)
iii) Connotative meaning (2 mks)

5. State and explain, any five non verbal elements that a speaker can use during speech

7. (a) Why is it important to plan your time before venturing in any form of study? (3 mks)
(b) Identify and explain any two factors that you would consider, before designing a study
location. (4 mk s)
(c) Devise a realistic and sensible weekly private study timetable that you can effectively use.
It should include time for
i) Lecturers
ii) Extended uninterrupted period of time to produce assignments
iii) Assessing reference books in the Library
iv) Writing up notes at end of each day. (8 mks)
