QUESTION ONE
The following is an excerpt of a report compiled and presented by the Principal East
Ways Training Institute at the end of the year. Read it and answer the questions that
follow.
“We have experienced a tremendous growth in our institution in terms of
numbers. The student enrollment has been as follows; Last year we had
female enrollment in the three classes being fourty in class A, thirty in
class B and fifty five in class C. The male enrollment in the same classes
were twenty five in class A, fourty in class B and thirty six in class C.
This year the female enrollment was fourty five in class A, thirty five in
class B, and sixty in class C; while the male enrollment was thirty in class
A, fourty in class B and sixty in class C.
The financial performance has not been commensurate with the
enrollment. Profit last year was five hundred thousand shillings against
total cost of three thousand shillings. This year the profits were five
hundred shillings against total cost of four hundred thousand shillings.”
