1. This paper consists of FOUR section A, B, C & D.
2. Answer ONE question from each SECTION.
SECTION A
Question one
Assume you are the key-note speaker in a seminar aimed at sensitizing the Kenyan Cabinet and
permanent Secretaries on the general theme “Alleviating poverty in Kenya”. The specific topic
given to you is as follows:
“The role of the small and medium Enterprise sector (SME sector) in Kenya as a vehicle to
poverty alleviation and national cohesion”
Write a detailed paper on the above topic that you will be presenting to the Cabinet during the
seminar. 25 marks
Question two
The term globalization has been defined in various ways by scholars; and yet there is no single
definition that fits all. Some have defined it as ‘America-nization’, others as ‘China-nization’
whereas others look at it as nothing new other than International Trade. Do you agree with these
statements? With the aid of suitable examples, evaluate the role of globalization as regards its
contribution to developing economies such as Kenya. 25 marks
SECTION B
Question one
Foreign Aid Dependency Syndrome is more “harmful” than it appears. Far from being a catalyst,
foreign aid inhibits the growth of the African continent. Discuss the above statement. 25 marks
Question two
In respect to the Economic pillar of the Vision 2030 of the Kenyan Government elaborate on the
contribution of the following types of enterprises in achieving the vision. 25 marks
(i) Sole proprietorships
(ii) Partnerships
(iii) Corporations

Question one
Whereas internationalization has offered great opportunities to all the areas of a business
practitioners, there are numerous challenges associated to the same. In view of the Kenyan
environment discuss such challenges and the likely solutions. 25 marks

A library text entitled “Successful Business Research” Starts with chapter 1 as “where do I get
the Numbers?” why on earth would such a question arise for a researchers when the internet is
available and libraries are full of reference books periodicals and paper report .As a PhD student
is the era of rampant plagiarism discuss the likely concerns of the writer and show possible
solutions. What legal implications exist in case of Academic plagiarism? 25 marks

Question one
“In today’s fast changing environment HRM is an indispensible tool in the hands of an
organization for gaining competitive advantage” Critically evaluate this statement giving full
support to your argument. 25 marks
Question two
Examine the concept of performance appraisal and illustrate the new developments that are being
proposed to make performance appraisal more meaningful and explain the benefits of performance
management. 25 marks
