4. Draw the structural formulae of the following compounds:-

12. When solid magnesium carbonate was added to a solution of hydrogen chloride in methylbenzene, there was no apparent reaction. On addition of water to the resulting mixture, there was effervescence. Explain this observation. (2 mks)

13. Dry hydrogen gas reacts with heated copper (¡¡) oxide as shown in the equation below.

b). State one use of hydrogen based on its density. (1 mk)

14). State one gas which can be used in place of hydrogen as indicated by the question above. (1 mk)

15). Give two properties of carbon (¡v) oxide that is suitable for use in fire extinguishers. (2 mks)

16. A reddish brown halogen B was bubbled through a colourless solution containing ions of another halogen C. The solution turned dark red after a short while.

a). Identify halogen C (1 mk)

b). Write an ionic equation for the reaction that takes place above using actual symbols of B and C. (1 mk)
