INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATE
1.Cheating in examination will lead to deduction of marks.
2. Read questions carefully and answer accordingly.
3.All questions are compulsory.

Q.1.A piston of cross-sectional area 2.0m2 is pushed into a cylinder containing a liquid.
A pressure of 20000pa is produced in the cylinder. How much force is applied on the piston? (5 marks)
Q.2.A piece of aluminium weighs 10N in air.
What will be its weight when immersed in water? (5 marks)
Q.3.A boat of mass 400000kg floats in sea water of density 0.00103kgm3.
Calculate the volume of the sea water it displaces. (5 marks)
Q.5.A block of metal weighs 10N and has a volume of 120cm3. The block suspended from a spring balance is completely immersed in a liquid of 0.0012kgm.What is the reading on the spring balance. (5 marks)
Q.6.A rod of mass 120g and a cross-sectional area of 6.0cm2 is made to float upright in water. Determine the length of the rod under water. (5 marks)
Q.7.When floating in a liquid of relative density 0.9,a hydrometer diplaces 100cm3 when in a liquid of relative density 1.3 ? (5 marks)
Q.8.The rubber used to make a balloon weighs 0.1kg. The balloon is inflated to a volume of 0.5m3 with hydrogen whose density is 0.09kgm. What is the maximum load the balloon can lift. (5 marks)
Q.9.A meteorologist is designing a hydrogen balloon with a buoyancy of 15N.If the balloon fabric and fitting have a mass of 0.5kg, What is the volume of the inflated balloon?(Ignore the volume of the fabric and fittings;density of air=0.0126kgm and density of hydrogen=0.00089kgm)
Q.10.A flat-base test tube of uniform cross-sectional area is filled with mercury until it floats upright in brine with 4.5cm of its length submerged .When placed in water,it floats with 5.0cm of its length immersed.Determine the density of the brine.(Density of Water=0.001kgm
Q.11.A gas in container has a pressure of 0.00025pa when the temperature is 25degree celsus.Determine the pressure of the gas when the temperature is lowered to minus 10 degree celsus.(Assume there is no change in volume) (5 marks)
Q.12.Describe with the aid of a clearly labelled diagram an experiment to verify the pressure law. (5 marks)
