Q.1.An object is placed 20cm from a converging lens of focal length 10cm and an image is formed on a screen on the other side of the lens.When a diverging lens is placed halfway between the converging lens and the image,the screen is moved 10cm backwards for a clear image to be formed.Find:
a) the focal length of the diverging lens.

b)the final magnification of the image.(2 marks)
Q.2.A tube of mass 10g,length 10cm and a uniform cross-sectional area of 3cm is partially filled with lead shot. The tube floats vertically in water with 5cm of its length submerged. Find the mass of the lead shot.

Q.4.A certain machine uses an effort of 400N

Q.6.A load of weight 1500 N is raised by rolling it up an inclined plane of height 1.5m and length 3.0m.If the effort applied is 800N,determine:

Q.7.A coin is placed at the bottom of a beaker and a transparent liquid added into the beaker to a height of 8cm. By viewing the coin from the top and using an identical coin on the outside of the beaker,the apparent position of the coin in the beaker is found to be 2.1cm from the bottom. Determine the refractive index of the liquid. (5 marks)

Q.11.A heater of power of rating,P,is placed in water in a calorimeter and switched on. When the water starts boiling,the heater is left on for 10 minutes before being swtiched off. It is found that 10.5g of water has boiled off. Determine the value of P.

Q.12.A transformer of 600 turns in the primary circuit and 9000 turns in the secondary circuit is connected to a 240 V mains supply. The current in the secondary circuit is 0.15A.what is the current in the primary circuit? (5 marks)
