This paper consists of 2 printed pages. Candidates should check the question paper to ensure that both pages are printed as indicated and no questions are missing
Answer three questions only. Each of your compositions should be between 350 and 450 words.
1. Imaginative Composition (compulsory) (20 marks)
Either
a) Write a composition beginning with the following:
"As 1 got closer to my home that night, I realized that the commotion and noise I had heard on
alighting from the bus came from my elder brother's house."
Or
b) Write a composition stating whether you agree or disagree with the following statement:
"Educating a woman means educating the whole family."
2. Novel (Compulsory) (20 marks)
Marjorie Oludhe Macgoye Coming to Birth
Basing your answer on Marjorie Oludhe Macgoye's Coming to Birth, write a composition on
the adverse effects of some of the practices and beliefs in the community.

Write a composition illustrating the statement:

Using illustrations from John Ruganda's Shreds of Tenderness, write a composition on the
hardships faced by refugees.
Or
c) The Novel (20 marks)
Velma Pollard, Homestretch
Brenda said about her country, Jamaica: "This damn country so nasty." Write a composition
illustrating this statement basing your answer on Velma Pollard's Homestretch.
