INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
• Answer three questions only
• Questions one and two are compulsory
• In Question three choose only one of the optional texts you have prepared on.
• Where a candidate presents work on more than one optional text, only the first one to appear will be marked.
• Each of your essays must not exceed 450 words.
This paper consists of 2 printed pages. Candidates should check the question paper to ensure that all pages are printed as indicated and no questions are missing.
Question I
Imaginative composition (20 marks)
Either
(a) Write a composition ending with the words, “This experience made me feel that my parents were the most precious people in the world.”
Or
(b) Write a story to agree or disagree with the saying, “A short cut is often a wrong cut.”
2. Drama (Compulsory)
William Shakespeare, the Merchant of Venice “The devil looks after its own,” Justify the validity of this saying basing your argument on the “Merchant of Venice.”

3. (a) Macmillan (Edn.), Half A Day and Other stories
“As you make your bed, so must you lie on it”, Write a composition to illustrate
the above saying, refer to the story “Moneyman” for your illustrations.
(b) The Novel Velma Pollard, Homestretch
With illustrations from the Velma Pollard’s “Homestretch,” write a composition on the problems affecting Jamaican Society.
Or
3b. Drama, John Ruganda’s, Shreds of tenderness
Stella is a good example of the importance of the Girl-child in a family conflict resolution.” Write a
composition showing how her character helps her to play this role, drawing your illustrations from
“Shreds of Tenderness”.
