b) Describe five characteristics of a hazard.
c) Explain the ‘apparent increase’ of disasters in the world.
2. Discuss reasons explaining why developing countries are more vulnerable to disasters
than industrialized countries.
3. ‘Gender inequality is a root cause of women’s increasing vulnerability to disasters.’
Discuss.
4. Examine the role of Geographic Information Systems in the management of hazards.
5. Examine the long term consequences of disasters to the development of a development
of a third world country.
6. Using the example of a common hazard in your community, discuss the different types
of adaptation and adjustment in the management of the hazard.
