SECTION A

Q1. Some categories of people with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to discrimination, abuse and barriers to participation in society. Identify these categories of people. [6 marks]

Q2. A seven year old child was splashed with a chemical substance in the eyes which resulted in scarred cornea of the eye, causing blindness. The child could not be accepted into a school because teachers didn’t know how to work with a blind child.

In this case scenario, identify the impairment, disability and handicap. [6 marks]

Q3. Describe four types of sensory disability. [6 marks]

Q4. Models of disability are used to provide strategies that can be devised to meet the needs of people with disabilities. Describe six views expressed by the medical model. [6 marks]
Q5. There is a strong correlation between poverty and disability. Poverty and disability interact to cause a vicious cycle of disability and poverty. How can CBR be used as a poverty reduction strategy? [6 marks]

Q6. The concept of “inclusive community” is now commonly used with reference to education, health services, employment, etc for PWD. What is the main focus of this concept? [6 marks]

Q7. For a CBR programme to succeed in a community a CBR committee is crucial. Identify the key persons who should form/comprise this committee. [6 marks]
