SECTION A - ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

1. Explain the existence in several forms of the “Red Cross” Movement. (6 marks)

2. Explain the application of the following anthropometric indices among children in
malnutrition evaluation during emergency situation.

a) MUAC (2 marks)

3. Distinguish between surveys and surveillance in respect to purpose and data
collection methods in health and nutrition assessment during emergency situations.(6 marks)

4. During an emergency affecting a community of 200,000 people, among whom
20,000 were children under 5 years a total of 150 people, including 60 CU5 had
died in a span of 10 days. Determine whether the mortality rates warranted a
declaration of an emergency situation. (6 marks)

5. Distinguish between “General Food Distribution” and “Emergency” ratios that
may be distributed during emergency situations. (6 marks)

6. Outline the factors to be considered in the choice of food commodities to be
included in a general food distribution programme during an emergency. (6 marks)

7. Define “Early Warning Systems” and outline the type of data search systems
collect / rely on. (6 marks)
