SECTION A

Question One

Discuss five factors to consider when deciding on the arrangement of building in a farmstead.

(10 Marks)


State four building materials used for walls of farm structures and for each one of them mention one strength and one weakness compared to the other alternatives.

(10 marks)


With the help of diagrams describe four types of milking parlors found on commercial farms.

(10 marks)

SECTION B

Question Two
Draw a ground plan and a sketch of the elevation plan for a building for pigs with 6 to 8 pens. (20 Marks)

Question Three
With the help of diagrams, describe two structures used at places where a farm road is expected to cross a natural water way carrying water. (20 Marks)

Question Four
Estimate the amount of cement, sand and ballast required for a floor slab 20cm thick in a building measuring 20m by 15 m given that : (20 Marks)

The ratio to be used is 1:3:5
The sand used has a density of 1500Kg/m3
The ballast has a density of 1700Kg/M3
The wastage expected is 15%
The reduction in volume expected is 35%
