Question One

Use the facts below to write a header story for the 7pm television newscast. Ensure your story runs no longer than 30 seconds.

Emergency situation today at Mashakani High School.

Sudden mid-morning heavy rains caused floods.

Mashakani High School administration and Mashakani High School board officials will not comment.

All students were walked by their teachers to the parking lot of Hope Centre, five kilometers away from the school, where buses took them home.

Ten students suffered injuries on their limbs as they climbed on classroom rooftops to escape the raging flood waters.

A cook at the school was seen floating on the waters near the school’s kitchen using a wooden table as a raft.

First Aid workers said one student had suffered severe shock but was in stable condition.

Ten days ago the Meteorology Department Officers had released an alert that there would be heavy rains in Muroro District. Mashakani High School is built on a low lying plain.

Property and students personal belongings were destroyed by the flood waters and some school books could be seen floating on the water.

It is not clear when the students will return to school.
