Question One

Radio as a medium is handicapped by having to rely on sound alone to communicate the news. Identify the five different types of audio elements explaining how they are used variedly to communicate the news.

Microphones are the major tool for radio news reporters.

Identify three types of microphones by "directionality" as you explain how and when they are used.

(9 marks)

Explain the differences between boom mike and lavarice mics stating how and when they are used.

(6 marks)

Question Two

Discuss the 3c’s of radio news writing.

(10 marks)

Explain how the accuracy and the quality of a radio news item can be compromised during the production and transmission.

(10 marks)

Question Three
"Responsible reporting requires accuracy, balance, clarity of expression and verification of facts." Discuss this statement stating why and how it is done in radio news reporting. (20 marks)

Question Four
In order for the radio listener to grasp what is being said in real timer, the producer must write for the ear. Give the ten rules of writing for the ear. (20 marks)

What would you consider to be the major challenges of radio news reporting in Kenya today and how can they be addressed? (20 marks)
