Question One
a) Define the following concepts as applied to consultancy:-
i) Consultant
ii) Client
iii) Bid
iv) Contract
v) Conflict (6marks)
b) Company ABC has determined that expert services are needed to turn around its operations and improve its fortunes. Specifically they are not sure about their organizations structure and managerial systems and whether they are well placed with regard to the market dynamics. The are considering whether to use internal or external advice to address business problem at hand.
Given the situation at ABC, proceed and advise them on what to do in order to obtain the services they require. (14marks)

c) Identify and briefly explain the skills required of a consultant and
specifically indicate why each of the skills is important. (8marks)
d) Why in your view are consulting services gaining popularity among
business and government agencies? (3marks)
Question Two
a) Explain the consulting process clearly identifying the steps involved and
the importance of each stage. (9marks)
b) Clearly discuss "Client consultant relationship" including how to nurture
this relationship. (5marks)
c) "Joint problem definition" is crucial for any consultancy work. What does this phrase mean? And why is it necessary? (4marks)
d) Why is it necessary to deal professionally qualified entities in any export service situation? (2marks)
Question Three
a) Assess the state of consultancy profession and practices in Kenya point out any gaps that you perceive and propose solutions to them. (10marks)
b) Depending on the nature of a consultancy assignment/project, expression of interest (EO1). Request for proposal (RFP) and request for information (RFI) are necessary steps/documents/ phases
Clearly demonstrate your understanding of :-

ii) RFP
iii) RFI as applied to consultancy projects. (6marks)
c) i) What s "capalility statement as applied to consultancy? (2marks)
ii) At what point in the consultancy assignment is the consultant
required to provide capability statement? (2marks)
Question Four
a) You have been approached to advise someone who is bidding for a consultancy project and who will be required to negotiate with the client ahead of the contract signature. The nature of the assignment is that a multiple expert skills will be required.
Proceed and provide the advise assuming that the RFP has already been issued by the client and that your client (you are now the advisor to the person bidding) will be required to also orally present the bid and prepare for negotiation in anticipation of "winning" the contract.

b) Assume that you are a client`s representative on a project and that you are tasked with all activities related to consultancy from inception to implementation and handover of the project or goods to your organization.
Clearly identify and briefly explain what your roles would be and how you will ensure that you effectively execute them. (8marks)
