It is said that the role of the press is to be the watchdog in the running of public affairs to ensure that government is accountable to the citizens. Explain how this role is compromised when media owners appoint their board of directors from individuals, groups and institutions with political connections and interests. (30marks)

While politicians and senior government officials crave media coverage, they also fear negative publicity. What can media personnel do to ensure politicians
do not suck them into shabby cover-up of corrupt deals? (20marks)
