SECTION A (30 MARKS)
1. Briefly respond to the following;
a) Define Christian counseling (2 marks)
b) State the uniqueness of Christian counseling to other counseling approaches.

2. List and describe briefly the phases/steps of a counseling process. (5 marks)
3. Briefly discuss the centrality of the Bible and the Holy Spirit in Christian counseling.
(5 marks)
4. Listening and confrontation are important skills in counseling. Briefly discuss each of these
two skills. (5 marks)
5. Dealing with counselees of opposite sex and time are some of the challenges the Christian
counselor faces in counseling. Briefly explain this observation and show how you would
help deal with these two challenges for effective counseling. (5 marks)
6. List and explain briefly any four of the factors that determine counseling effectiveness.

SECTION B (40 MARKS)
7. (a) With aid of biblical references, give three purposes for marriage (1.5 marks)
(b) Give three factors to consider when choosing a marriage partner (1.5 marks)
(c) Write down two purposes for premarital counseling (1 mark)
(d) Show how you would help a couple preparing for marriage (6 marks)
8. John lost his only son in the recent bombing attack at Nairobi’s Uhuru park grounds
during a “NO” campaign to the new proposed constitution. He is going through a period of
grief. Briefly explain grief and show how you can help in this situation (10 marks)
9. Wilberforce a pastor in your neighbouring local church is going through a marital crisis
with his wife Penina. They plan to file a divorce in the law courts but they decide to seek
help from you first.
a) Give four causes of marital problems (2 marks)
b) Give four effects of marital problems (2 marks)
c) Show how you would help this couple in order to avoid divorce. (6 marks)
10. Purity, a widow and the only bread winner of her four children recently lost her job in one of
the banks in the city. She is now suffering depression. Briefly explain depression and show
how you would help her. (10 marks)
11. Alcoholism has become a common problem in modern societies. Briefly discuss this
observation and show how you can help a young person struggling with alcoholism.
(10 marks)
12. Based on your personal experiences discuss briefly some of the cultural practices in your
community that would cause a challenge to Christian counseling. (10 marks)
