SECTION A: Question ONE is compulsory (30 MKS)
1. (a) Outline and discuss the importance of the inclusion of comparative education in teacher
training. Discuss (10 mks)
(b) The education sector would benefit a lot if it borrowed from African Traditional Education
(ATE). Discuss this statement basing your answer on the content, curriculum, organization
of ATE. (10 mks)
(c) Methods of studying comparative education evolved as a result of failures of previous
methods of study. Respond to this statement showing how Historical method of studying
comparative education evolved due to the failures of the earlier Descriptive method.

SECTION B: Choose Any TWO questions.
2. (a) Critically examine teacher utilization and development in Kenya and make relevant
suggestions for improvement basing your answer on Japanese and British Education.

(b) Compare the centralized administrative structure used in Kenyan Education system with
the decentralized one of the U.S.A. and Britain showing the merits and demerits of each.

3. (a) Student unrest in secondary and post secondary institutions portrays underlying social
upheavals. Show the truth of this statement while suggesting solutions to this problem basing
your answer on education systems of your choice. (10 mks)
(b) Performance in private primary and secondary schools in national exams in Kenya is often
better than national schools. Explain why this is so showing lessons that public school
administrators can draw from private practice to improve performance. (10 mks)
4. Drawing examples from American education system, show how Kenya can improve her
