(a) Explain the following terms as used in statistics

Question 3 (10 Marks)
(a) Bata Shoes Company has tendered for two independent contracts. It estimates that it has probability 0.6 of obtaining contract B and 0.5 of obtaining contact A. Find the probability that the firm;
(i) Obtains both contract [2 marks]
(ii) Obtains at least one contract [2 marks]
(iii) Obtains exactly one contract [2 marks]
(b) Differentiate between discrete probability and continuous probability using relevant examples. [4 marks]
Question 4 (10 Marks)
The table below shows the frequency distribution table for milk (Kg) sales of 50 farmers of Kericho County.

Draw a cumulative frequency graph and answer the following questions [3 marks]
(i) Find the percentage of farmers who sold more than 42 kg [2 marks]

(iii) Find the range of kilograms sold in the middle 40% of the distribution [3 marks]
Question 5 (10 Marks)
A bag contains 4 yellow and 5 black pencils. Three pencils are to be picked one after the other
(a) With replacement
Find the probability that
(i) At least two pencils picked are black [2 marks]
(ii) Only one pencil picked is yellow [2 marks]
(b) Without replacement
Find the probability that
(i) At most two pencils are black [3 marks]
(ii) The three pencils are of the same colour [3 marks]
