QUESTION ONE (30 MARKS)
1. (a) Define the Input-Output Analysis Planning model and explain why it is not very
popular in less developed countries. (10 marks)
(b) Briefly explain the nature of Kenya’s economic system and its type of development
planning. (10 marks)
(c) Explain the major causes of plan implementation failures in the less developed
countries. (10 marks)
QUESTION TWO (20 MARKS)
Briefly highlight some of the disadvantages associated with centrally planned economies.
Owing to these disadvantages the former socialist economies have opted for the free
market systems. In this attempt, what are the main challenges that these countries have
faced? (20 marks)

(a) Define a development plan. What are the basic principles of a development plan?
(10 marks)
(b) In the formulation of a development plan, extensive survey and study of the economy
is one of the major steps to be undertaken. Explain fully what this involves. (10 marks)

formulation of a development plan for a country such as Kenya:

(a) Explain the main factors that are considered when choosing a planning model to be
used in the preparation of a development plan for a country (10 marks)
(b) “Kenya Vision 2030” can be viewed as a development plan for the country Justify
this statement. (10 marks)
