iii) Mitigation measures and Review of EIA study report
iv) A plan and a programme.

Q3. Explain five reasons why any developing country would want to have mandatory
environmental impact assessment (EIA) in its environmental laws (10 marks)

Q4. Elaborate precisely on the significance of public participation, involvement and consultation
in the EIA process (5 marks)

Q5. Summarize the roles and challenges of each of four key stakeholders who are involved in the
EIA Study process (8 marks)
Q6. Briefly explain the advantages and disadvantages of using the overlay maps analysis
technique in the EIA process (6 marks)


SECTION B (20 MARKS) - Answer TWO questions only.

Q7. Discuss briefly at least five reasons to show why Kabarak University should want to be
ISO 14001 certified like some other universities and organizations in Kenya are operating
on this mode of environmental management system. (10 marks)

Q8. Think of one development project which has been in the recent past carried out in your
district or county and answer the following questions.
a) Make a descriptive checklist showing ten identified environmental impacts and
their nature and type (5 marks)
b) Establish a network analysis method to indicate how the environmental impacts
identified in 8a are inter-related. (5 marks)

Q9. Use the matrix method to quantify the significance (importance) and the magnitude (size)
of the ten environmental impacts which have been identified in number 8a. (10marks)
