1. (a) Highlight four aspects/issues that project managers are involved in negotiating for. [2 Marks]
(b) Fisher and Ury from Harvard negotiation project champions an approach to negotiation that emphasizes win-win solutions while protecting oneself against those who would take advantage of one’s forthrightness. Discuss the four key stages/guidelines involved in using this approach using examples/illustrations to support your answers. [8 Marks]
(c) Highlight in brief six issues that project managers have to contend with in the course of managing a contract. [3 Marks]
(d) In contract management, managers undertake both simple and complex contracts. Identify and explain five of these contracts. [5 Marks]
(e) Discuss the following terms as used in project and contract management, use examples where appropriate:
(i) Accounting for contracts [2 Marks]
(ii) Post tendering negotiation [2 Marks]
(iii) Meta-evaluation [2 Marks]
(iv) Project management cycle [6 Marks]
2. Contract management entails two types of activities i.e. upstream and downstream activities. Clearly explain the contract management process bringing out well the upstream and downstream activities. [20 Marks]
3. (a) For success to be realized in a project design, good research is imperative. Discuss this statement clearly bringing out the following:-
(i) The importance of good information in project design
(ii) Factors to be considered during research
(iii) Ways of collecting information for use in project design. [15 Marks]
(b) Managing project start-up (before work authorization) requires that certain fundamental things/issues be clearly agreed upon as the basis upon which project will be defined and measured. List five of these things/issues. [5 Marks]
4. (a) (i) Explain the 5 steps involved in the project appraisal process.
[5 Marks]
(ii) Project appraisal entails assessment of the economic, technical, organizational, managerial and financial aspects of a given project. Discuss the issues that require to be assessed under each of the following:-
- Economic aspects
- Technical aspects
- Organizational aspects
- Managerial aspects
- Financial aspects. [5 Marks]
(b) Explain the various approaches to project evaluation as use in project management. [10 Marks]
