Question One
(a) What is free trade? Explain how free trade policy has facilitated the growth of trade in the world economies. [8 Marks]
(b) Trade protectionism is the economic policy of restraining trade between states. Discuss the trade protectionism methods commonly used by countries to allow fair competition.

(c) Discuss the importance of trade to an economy. [8 Marks]
(d) Discuss the various functions performed by money in facilitating trade in an economy. [6 Marks]
Question Two
(a) By use of practical examples, explain the constraints and challenges facing countries of Africa in international trade. [10 Marks]
(b) In an attempt to understand why international trade takes place, various theories of international trade have significantly tried to explain and give reasons why countries trade with one another. One such theory is the classical theory of international trade. Explain and illustrate the basis for trade as expounded by the classical theory.

(a) Explain the role and functions of the ministry of commerce and trade. [8 Marks]
(b) You have currently been appointed as a trade policy specialist in the ministry of trade. Advice the government of Kenya on the various ways and techniques it can employ to promote both domestic and international trade. [12 Marks]

(b) Explain the role of marketing activities in marketing Kenya has a trading hub.
