1. With close reference to any TWO novels covered in this course, critically assess how the texts address the concerns of Gynocriticism as outlined by Elaine Showalter. Focus on five well illustrated concerns. [20 Marks]
2. Literature by African women dramatizes the conflict between resistance and obedience, particularly when it comes to patriarchal values. Do you agree? Support your position by giving clear illustrations from any TWO texts read for this course. [20 Marks]
3. Evaluate any TWO texts covered in this course and show how the texts dramatize a rebellion of the female consciousness against male images of female identity and experience. [20 Marks]
4. Literature by women, like that by men, has not grown out of a vacuum; it has been given impetus and direction by society. With reference to any two texts covered in this course, assess the validity of this observation in terms of the representation of the female characters. [20 Marks]
5. If one critic claimed that there is nothing like a female perspective in literature, that all literature is class literature. What would be your logical response? Give elaborate illustrations from any two texts covered in this course to support your position.
