1. Answer Four Questions in all.
2. Question One is Compulsory

1. Paying close attention to specific East African scholars of oral literature, discuss and evaluate the major trends of the study since 1970.

2. Critically discuss and assess the value of anthropological approaches to the study of oral literature and folklore.

3. Either

(a) Attempt an evaluative critique on the application of psychological analysis to the study of oral literature.
Or

(b) Critically discuss the place of feminist and gender approaches to the study of oral literature.

4. Analyse in detail the universal nature and significance of myths in human culture. Illustrate your answer with texts you are familiar with.

5. Paying close attention to their literary features, critically discus the nature and the interface between folktales, proverbs and riddles.

6. Discuss in detail the main genres of oral poetry in Africa paying close attention to the validity of their classification.

7. Discuss and evaluate the place of change and adaptations in the performance and presentation of oral literature in Kenya in the 21st century.
