QUESTION 1: Compulsory (30 marks)
(a) Define Systems development methodology (2marks)
(b) Differentiate between logical design and physical design. (4marks)
(c) List and explain FOUR main system implementation strategies (Going Live) (8marks)
(d) State four objectives of a preliminary investigation. (4marks)
(e) Differentiate between Database and Database Management Systems (2marks)
(f) How can organizations protect themselves from viruses? (4marks)
(g) Briefly explain the main factors that must be considered by a systems analyst before designing a system for implementation on a computer. (6marks)
QUESTION TWO
(a) During the investigation phase the following techniques enable the analyst to correct facts about the system under study:
(i) Interviewing
(ii) Questionnaire
(iii) Observation
Briefly explain each of these techniques, giving the advantages and disadvantages of each. (12 marks)
(b) Draw a decision tree to represent the following procedure for development of new employees in an organization "Employees with a relevant degree may either join the graduate entry program or provided they are in the top 15% in special aptitude tests undergo accelerated management training. Those with other degrees are illegible for the graduate entry program only. Employees without a-degree but with other qualifications join the main intake stream. Employees without any qualification are taken on at clerical grades. (8 marks)

a) Candidates are accepted for employment if they pass the interview and their qualifications and reference are satisfactory. If they pass the interview and the qualifications or reference (but not both) are unsatisfactory, a job for probationary period is offered.
