(i) Nakuru Fashion is a textile manufacturing Company employing more than 1200 people including
executives. In 2004 the company decided to diversify into garment manufacturing as well but
found that the existing manpower could not really fit into the requirement of achieving the new
business objectives of the company. If you were hired as a Human Resource consultant in this
organization at that stage what specific steps would you have suggested? (6 marks)
(ii) Peter Drucker once remarked “work in Human Resource Management is nothing more that the
work of file clerk.”
(a) What has happened in the world of work that makes this statement currently false?

(b) What in your opinion are the most significant issues/challenges that the Human Resource
Management field and its practitioners will face in the next decade in Kenya? Substantiate
your answers with suitable arguments. (5 Marks)
(iii) Examine the concept of performance appraisal and illustrate the new developments that are being
proposed to make performance appraisal more meaningful. (6 Marks)
(iv) The managing director of Beef processing Company has identified conflicts between staff managers
and line managers in his organization. He has engaged you as a consultant who is a specialist in
HRM to try to resolve the said conflicts. Highlight on staff managers and line managers and
identify possible sources of conflict between the managers and how you can resolve these conflicts.
