Answer all the questions in section A and any two in section B.
SECTION A
Question One
Distinguish between the following terms as used in statistics
One tailed test and two tailed test.
Type I error and type II error.
Null hypothesis and alternate hypothesis
Dependent variable and independent variable
Parameter and a statistic.

Question Two
A Farm manager in Kithoka farm in Kenya Methodist University receives an average of five bad cheeks a day. What is the probability that he will receive three bad cheeks on a given day?

It is believed that 30% of all stolen cars are recovered and returned to the owners. In a month when 200 cars are stolen, what is the probability that between 65 and 75 cars will be recovered and returned to their owners?

Question Three
A Soil Scientist tests the effect of three different fertilizers on wheat yields in tonnes from four different and equal plots of land. The results are as shown below:

Test at 0.05 level of significance to determine if there is any difference in yield per plot from those different fertilizers.

Batian flower farm was interested in predicting the annual maintenance cost of farm vehicles based upon the age of the vehicle. A sample of ten vehicles reviewed the following ages and maintenance costs during the year 2010/

Question Five
A researcher from Delmonte Company which produces fruit juices wanted to find out if there is any relationship between sex and preference for colour of the fruit juice. He got the following results.

From the above data is there a relationship between sex and preference for colour at = 0.05. (10 marks)
If a coin is tossed five times what is the probability of getting at least one tail.

Question Six
An Anthropologist, studying for male/female ratio in a remote area of Garisa County, took a random sample of 100 persons and found that 60 of them were males. Establish a 90% confidence interval for the population of males in the region.

The Agricultural and Rural development class has 200 students. Studies have shown that on an average 15% of students have always been absent for tutorials. What is the probability that on a given turorial week;
150 or more students will attend the tutorials
190 or fewer students will attend.
Between 170 and 185 students will attend.
