QUESTION ONE (Compulsory - 30 Marks)
Figure 1 (Question 1) shows parts of a screw jack. Study the given views and assemble
the parts together. Then using third angle orthographic projection, draw to a suitable
scale the following;
(a) The full sectioned front view
(b) The plan view projected from the front view
Include a parts list, a suitable title block and the projection symbol according to standard
drawing conventions.

QUESTION TWO (20 Marks)
(a) Figure 2 (Question 2(a)) shows a front view of a right cone. If the cone is truncated
along plane XX;
(i) Draw the front and the plan views of the truncated cone in third angle pro-
jection.
(ii) Draw the lateral surface development of the remaining cone. [12 Mks]
Figure 2: Question 2 (a)
(b) Figure 3 (Question 2 (b)) shows two views of a cylinder drawn in third angle. Draw
the given views and develop the lateral surface of the cylinder. [8 Mks]

QUESTION THREE (20 Marks)
Draw a cam pro le to impart the following motion to a swinging link with a roller
follower.
Follower to move outwards through an angular displacement of 300 with simple
harmonic motion for the rst 1800.
Follower to return to its initial position with uniform speed for the next 1200.
Follower to dwell for the last 600 of cam rotation
The distance between the pivot center and roller center is 120mm, the distance between
the pivot center and cam shaft center is 130mm, minimum radius of the cam is 40mm,
and the radius of the roller is 10mm. The rotation of the cam is clockwise and there is
no eccentricity between the center lines of the roller follower and the cam.
QUESTION FOUR (20 Marks)
Figure 4 (Question 4) shows an incomplete front view of two intersecting cylinders.
(a) Draw to a suitable scale and in First angle projection the plan view and the front
view with the interpenetration curve.
(b) Draw the development of the lateral surfaces of the two cylinders.

QUESTION FIVE (20 Marks)
(a) Figure 5 (Question 5(a)) shows a circle rolling clockwise along a straight line. Plot
the locus of point p with the initial position as shown. In block write the name of
the curve obtained and give one application of this curve. [10 Mks]
Figure 5: Question 5(a)
(b) In the mechanism given in Figure 6 (Question 5(b)), crank AB rotates clockwise
about A and the crank CD rotates anticlockwise about C. The cranks are joined
by the link BDE. Plot the locus of point E for one revolution of crank AB. [10
Mks]
