1. a) (i) Clearly distinguish between organizational vision and mission.

b) The modern trend in many business organsations encompasses group
decision making in the form of committees, commissions, task forces,
agencies, panels or boards. Discuss the case for and against such a trend.

c) To manage universities effectively management requires an effective
control system. Discuss the phases of an effective control system
necessary to monitor and accomplish tasks in such organizations and
explain major considerations in each phrase. (3½ marks)
d) Successful corporations are those that come up with objectives before
commencing their operations. Discuss the features of high quality

objectives in addition to the profitability. Explain the concept of business
social responsibility (BSR) and discuss the various components that

3. a) You have been invited to advise the university management board on the
recruitment and selection process of competent staff. Explain to the board
the steps involved in the selection process of academic staff.

employees. Discuss the merits and limitations of such groups in business
organizations. (3 marks)
b) i) Distinguish between centralization and decentralization of
authority in public Universities. (2 marks)
ii) Explain the benefits and shortcomings of adopting decentralization
in the allocation of authority. (2 marks)

8. a) An NGO with interest in research on the impact of HIV and AIDS in sub-
Saharan Africa is in the process of establishing its foothold in the
continent. It plans to open offices in West, East, North and Southern
Africa but to retain its Head Office in Belgium. The HQs has sent a team
of experts to conduct a pilot study before a full launch and the team has
retained you for advice.
