QUESTION ONE
Mr. Mang’wa a form four leaver, always wanted to be self employed since when he was young.
When the opportunity came for provision of food to constitution workers, at the new site of
hospital building, he seized it with excitement. He started with 10 regular customers and soon the
number increases the construction went into top gear. At the climax of business he was serving
50 customers. By the time the construction was done, Mangwa was satisfied with the profits he
had made and was now thinking of setting up a more formal business. He secure a rented
promise in the outcast of town and as the business improved he acquired a prime spot in the town
of Nakuru. Mang’wa was able to expand his business and within 3 years he had 6 outlets.
Mang’wa continued to be the manager dealing with all the aspects of the management and
operations himself with the help of his children and relatives. However in the beginning of the
fourth year, his business took a rather unusual turn. He started registration losses, something he
had not experienced since the start of business. In the 5th year the business was incurring serious
losses and could not meet its obligations. The quality of food had gone down and customers left
for other new upcoming business. In the 6th year, Mangwa’s had collapsed.
a) Using a diagram illustrate the organizational life cycle of Mr. Magnwa’s business
(5 marks)
b) Explain the fundamental management factors that may have contributed to the decline of
Mangwa’s business. (10 marks)
c) Identify the type of leadership that would be appropriate in putting the company back on
track and explain its characteristics. (10 marks)

this statement using a relevant theory. (15 marks)

Kiwanuka is a Senior Manager at Elwak group of Companies. He is unable to unable to meet his
work targets due to what he explains as lack of adequate time. An analysis of his working style
reveals that he does not delegate some of his work to his juniors. Required:
a) Provide the reasons why managers like kiwanuka are reluctant to delegate some of their
responsibilities (5 marks)
b) Outline the benefits that result from managers delegating some of their responsibilities.

c) Explain other strategies that managers can utilize in order to manage their time
effectively. (6 marks)
