Answer all questions in section A and any two in section B.
SECTION A (40 MARKS)
1. (a) List 5 reasons why it is important to keep animals in good health. [5 Marks]
(b) List 2 (two) diseases associated with each of the following clinical signs in
animals:
(i) Paralysis [1 Mark]
(ii) Salivation [1 Mark]
(iii) Diarrhoea [1 Mark]
(iv) Stormy abortion [1 Mark]
(v) Jaundice. [1 Mark]
2. (a) Younger and older animals are generally more susceptible to diseases than the
middle-aged ones. Explain why. [4 Marks]
(b) In animal disease control, it is said that prevention is better than cure. Explain
why and how. [6 Marks]
3. For each of the following diseases, list 2 (two) most important post mortem signs
associated with them:
(a) Tetanus [2 Marks]
(b) Paratubercullosis [2 Marks]
(c) CBPP [2 Marks]
(d) PPR [2 Marks]
(e) Gumboro Disease. [2 Marks]
4. Draw and fill the following table appropriately: [10 Marks]

5. (a) Under what circumstances would a disease be prevented or controlled
internationally? [3 Marks]
(b) Describe the OIE pathway. [3 Marks]
(c) Discuss the various ways disease control and prevention can be carried at the farm
level. [9 Marks]
6. (a) List at least 3 (three) types of changes that can be seen in milking from a quarter
with mastitis. [3 Marks]
(b) Describe the clinical signs evident in acute mastitis [5 Marks]
(c) As a manager of a large dairy farm, discuss the measures you will take in order to
prevent mastitis in your herd. [7 Marks]
7. You are in charge of a large poultry farm and have been given instructions to control all diseases that are transmitted through ingestion of feed and water contaminated with faeces.
(a) List at least 5 diseases that will be under you consideration. [5 Marks]
(b) Discuss the management system that you will put in place to prevent and control
these diseases. [10 Marks]
