SECTION A – 30 MARKS (COMPULSORY SECTION)
1. (a) Define the term ‘entrepreneurship’. [2 Marks]
(b) Outline the factors that may inhibit entrepreneurial development in ecotourism
and hospitality industry in Kenya. [4 Marks]
(c) Mention the characteristics of following types of entrepreneurs;

(ii) Professional entrepreneurs [1 Mark]
(iii) Technical entrepreneurs [1 Mark]
(iv) Spontaneous entrepreneurs [1 Mark]
2. (a) Briefly describe Joseph Schumpeter’s views on entrepreneurship. [4 Marks]
(b) List the reason why it is necessary to build an entrepreneurial team. [2 Marks]
3. Briefly describe the salient features of an ecotourism and hospitality establishment that operates as a sole proprietorship. [4 Marks]
4. Chuka University is to offer a prize for ‘Entrepreneur of the year in eco-tourism and hospitality industry’. You have been appointed as a panelist. Describe the criteria you would use to select the winner. [4 Marks]
5. Briefly describe the key functions of an entrepreneur in an enterprise. [4 Marks]

9. (a) Describe the strategies that an entrepreneur can employ to deal with business
risks. [10 Marks]
(b) ‘Failing to plan is planning to fail’. Discuss this famous assertion in relation to the
importance of business planning in ecotourism and hospitality firms.
