Answer FIVE questions only. The FIRST question is COMPULSORY
1. In the 4th century AD, a great Christian leader, by the name saint Chrysostom in his
writings, "On the Priesthood", described the four essential functions of the pastor.
(a) Discuss the four of them in detail. (8 marks)
(b) Do you agree with his list? Explain your answer. (2 marks)

2. A young Christian in the church has approached you claiming that they sense God''s
calling to ministry.
(a) Explain to them the twofold aspects of the call (4 marks)
(b) Highlight the four ways based on scripture which Jack Hayford identifies as the
way God may call one to a place of leadership. (4 marks)
(c) What are the various lessons you can learn from Moses'' call in Exodus 3 about how
God calls a leader out of a crowd to perform an assignment? (3 marks)
(d) Critique this statement citing biblical examples to support your answer: the call to
ministry is by selection not democratic election. (4 marks)

3. The shepherd is a well known figure among many agricultural peoples, and in ancient
Israel.
(a) Describe to show the various aspects the term ''shepherd'' has been used in the Old
and New Testaments (5 marks)
(b) Apply any five roles of a shepherd as taught in the Bible to your present ministry
context (10 marks)

4. For you as a pastor to minister to people under your care effectively, s/he will need to
know his/her people''s thoughts, feelings, doubts and fears, hopes and joys.
(a) Discuss the five biblical basic truths about man that will form the basis of your view
of man (5 marks)
(b) Name and briefly explain the five basic needs people seek to satisfy in life (5marks)
(c) What are the internal and external influences that shape a person? (5 marks)

5. A pastor needs to gain a clear knowledge of self if he is to be able to care for other
people
a) Using the Johari window, draw (and briefly explain) a clearly marked Johari window
for the following kinds of pastors:
i. Secretive
ii. Deaf to criticism
iii. Secretive and deaf to criticism
iv. Open, sharing, listening and understanding (12 marks)




b). Discuss any 3 biblical truths about human beings that a pastor can apply to gain a
positive self-image (3 marks)

6. You have been deployed to a new church with only 20 members.'' Using Bringing in a
crowd principles enumerated in Rick Warren''s book: Purpose Driven Church.
(i) Critique his argument that "Whenever anyone expresses a desire to minister in the
local church, you should focus on the SHAPE of the individual not the needs of
the institution". (3 marks)

(ii) Elaborate on what he means by the SHAPE of the individual. (10 marks)

(iii) Is his idea on the SHAPE biblical? Discuss. (2 marks)
