sociology. (8mks)

3. Discuss the various ways in which gender inequality is perpetuated in the
Kenyan education system and suggest possible solutions that can bring about
gender parity in the access to education system. (10mks)

4. (a) Briefly outline the basic terets of the structural functional theory. What are the
relevance of this theory on education in any given society? (10mks)
(b) Briefly outline the basic terets of the conflict theory and outline the value and
relevance of the theory upon education in any given society. (10mks)

5. (i) Mention the 3 basic ways in which socialization takes place within the school
system. (3mks)
(ii) To what extent is the school an agent of socialization? (10mks)

6. (i) In what ways does the education system transmit the culture of any given
society? (3mks)
(ii) Mention and briefly outline how the school curriculum is related to the culture
of the Kenyan people as a society. (7mks)

(ii) Discuss briefly the relationship between social stratification and academic

8. (i) Mention some of the challenges that education system faces in the quest for
national development in third world countries. (5mks)
(ii) Suggest ways in which the Kenyan government can bridge the gap between these
