Answer Any TWO Questions. All Questions carry equal marks.
1. Discuss the evolution of business strategy. In the process show external environment influences
the volatility and unpredictability of the whole process. What differences would you expect in the
strategic plans and strategic planning processes of Coca-Cola Company and Google inc?

2. The CEO of a chain of Pizza restaurants is interested in initiating a program of corporate social
responsibility to be funded by a50% Levy on the company’s operating profit. The board of
directors, fearing a negative shareholders reaction is opposed to the plan. What arguments might
the CEO use to persuade the board that CSR might be in the interests of shareholders and what
types of CSR, initiative might the program include to ensure that this is the case? How would a
CEO step and go beyond agency theory. (20 Marks)
3. Using any tools of analysis appropriate, show how you would segment restaurant market in your
home town. How would you advise someone thinking of starting a new restaurant which segments
might be most attractive in terms of profit potential. (20 Marks)
4. As a leader in a technology firm (e.g. recorded music industry and digital technology computer
software and open source, automobiles and alternative fuels), consider the immense changes
facing the industry. Develop two alternative scenarios for the future evolution of your chosen
industry, identify the problems posed by the new technology and develop a strategy for how the
company might adapt to and, exploit the changes you envisage. (20 Marks)
