Question 1
Company XYZ, a global firm has a vacancy for Managing director. In its advertisement it has indicated that it needs a manager with a bias in knowledge management. Required;
a) Define knowledge management stating the two types of knowledge inherent in any organization. (5marks)
b) Using the general knowledge model, explain the knowledge processes and flows that comprise the knowledge cycle in company XYZ above. (10marks)
c) Why is knowledge management important to the above company? (10marks)
Question 2
a) Explain briefly the differences between organizational learning and learning organization. (5marks)
b) Elaborate the importance of learning organization to knowledge management. (9marks)
c) Illustrate the role of organizational structure and culture in the creation of learning organization. (11marks)
Question 3
Using an identified knowledge management model, demonstrate how an organization can develop strategic competitive advantage based on knowledge management. (25 marks)
Question 4
Human capital management involves the systematic analysis, measurement and evaluation of how people, policies and practices create value.
Required:
Discuss the link between people and performance, and how human capital management compliments and strengthens the concept of human resource management (25marks)
Question 5
The purpose of knowledge management is to capture a company’s collective expertise and distribute it to “where it can achieve the biggest payoff”. Different companies who are pursuing this strategy resort to either of the two approaches that have been identified.

a) Application of both the codification strategy and personalization strategy in relation to the implementation of knowledge management (15 marks)
