1. Family theories differ in the way their central topic, the family, is defined and used. Discuss
the different ways that family theories define and use the term family giving one example of
a theory that uses each definition. (15 marks)


2. a) Discuss THREE levels of family theories giving an example of a theory that falls under
each level

b) Give an example of research that can be done at each level. (15 marks)


3. Family development theory is an approach which is useful in explaining patterned changes
that occur in the family life cycle. Identify the stages in family life according to this theory
and the critical tasks that must be accomplished in each stage for appropriate and satisfying
development for individual family members. Discuss the weakness of family development
theory. (15 marks)




4. What are the basic premises of Human Ecology theory? Discuss FIVE areas of research
where Human Ecology theory can make useful contribution. (15 marks)
