This paper has two sections: section I and section II.
Answer all the questions in section I and only two questions in section II.
SECTION I (answer all the questions in this section)
1. State and explain three factors which affect the volume of run-off water. (6 Marks)
2. Discuss briefly two advantages and two disadvantages of using land surface as a catchment area for water harvesting. (6 Marks)
3. Describe a step-by-step procedure for the construction of a sub-surface dam built in a riverbed. (6 marks)
4. Discuss two major differences between micro-catchments and macro-catchments. (6 Marks)
5. With illustrations where possible, describe any surface irrigation method of your choice. (6 Marks)
SECTION II (Answer any two questions in this section)
6. Discuss five factors which, if not carefully controlled, may result in poor water distribution with border irrigation. (15 Marks)
7. Water harvesting techniques are grouped into micro-catchments and macro-catchments. Describe with diagrams where possible one example of a technique in each group. (15 Marks)
8. Discuss five advantages of water harvesting in arid and semi arid areas. (15 Marks)
