QUESTION TWO (20 MARKS) 2. a) Using relevant examples, differentiate between a phenol and an aromatic alcohol. 2mks b) Alkanes react with halogens to give halogenoalkanes (alkyl halides). i) What conditions are necccessary for the reaction to take place? 1mk ii) Why is this method not a good way of making halogenoalkanes. 2mks c) Explain how you would distinguish between propene and propane 2mks d) Name and draw the structures of alkanes that would be formed if chloromethane and chloroethane reacts as per Wurtz reaction. 3mks e) i) State the Saytzeff’s rule. 2mks ii) Applying the above rule, name and draw the products formed from the following reaction.

Describe the chemical tests which you would carry out on X to establish its identity. Include chemical names of reagents, equations for the reactions and observations in each case. 6mks d) An alcohol has the formula, C6H11-OH. It does not react with bromine or bromine water. i) What does the information about bromine tell you about the alcohol? 1mk ii) What is the structure of the alcohol?
