2. (a) What is metadata. [1 Mark]
(b) Explain the importance of metadata in research. [4 Marks]
3. Data archiving is important in research process. However, there are principles to be
followed when archiving data. Clearly give the features of a good data archive.

4. (a) When MS Excel is used as a database, what do the ‘rows’ and ‘columns
represent?
(b) Explain how MS Excel can be used to facilitate the data entry process.
(c) What are pivot tables in Ms Excel and what are the basic rules for creating pivot
tables. [4 Marks]
5. (a) Differentiate between a DATA step and PROC step in a SAS program.

(b) State two rules of writing each of the following in a SAS program. Words,
Variable names, Statements. [6 Marks]
(c) The SAS program in Attachment 1 was used to analyse data from an experiment to determine the effect of three treatments on average daily weight gain (g/day). After running the program, the output in Attachment 2 was obtained. With reference to the attachment, explain the SAS program and the subsequent SAS Output. [10 Marks]
6. (a) State two main applications of regression analysis. [2 Marks]
(b) Give the simple linear regression model. [3 Marks]
(c) Write a SAS program to estimate the simple regression line of weight on
Heart girth of cows using the following sample data. [6 Marks]
