1. (a) Distinguish between entrepreneurship and small business ownership.

(b) Discuss the opportunities and drawbacks of small business ownership in your
country. [8 Marks]
(c) Most small business failure is attributed to poor management. If you were the
owner /manager of a small business, explain what you would do to improve the management of small business in order to minimize the failure rate.

2. (a) In reference to any specific external environmental factor, discuss the elements of
this environment and the need to understand it before the start of a new business. [12 Marks]
(b) State and explain at least four functions of a business plan. [8 Marks]
3. (a) Distinguish between a business idea and a business opportunity. [6 Marks]
(b) Business plan is not complete without the industry analysis and a marketing
section. Explain what is contained in each of the two sections. [14 Marks]
4. (a) Lewis will soon be graduating with diploma in business administration from
Chuka University. Discuss at least five factors that are likely to influence Lewis to consider self-employment after completing his course. [5 Marks]
(b) State and explain at least five factors that can be used to evaluate a good business
opportunity. [10 Marks]
(c) Distinguish between creativity and innovation and highlight at least three benefits
of innovation. [5 Marks]
