1. Evaluate any two plays and two poems read for this course and show how East African poetry and drama have been shaped by the different experiences in the region. [30 Marks]
2. Assess any two plays and two poems covered in this course and show how the styles used in the creative works have been influenced by the East African background. [30 Marks]
Section B
3. East African poets are bent more on criticizing the socio-political and economic situation in the region to the detriment of poetic creativity. Do you agree/disagree? Support your position by focusing on any five poems read for this course. [20 Marks]
4. Critically examine the relevance of studying Taban Lo Liyong’s play, Showhat and
Sowhat to an East African student of literature. [20 Marks]
5. Compare and show the effectiveness of the dramatic techniques used in John Ruganda’s play, The Burdens, with those used in Ibrahim Husseins’s play, Kinjeketile.
