Answer question one (Compulsory) and any other two questions.
1. (a) Explain the relationship between literature and language. [20 marks]
(b) Discuss the general principles of the integrated approach to language
and literature teaching and give its advantages and disadvantages. [10 marks]
2. Highlight six listening problems that hinder effective listening in the classroom
and show how they can be addressed through integration. [20 marks]
3. “A teacher can utilize poetry and oral literature in teaching pronunciation in
class.” Discuss this statement. [20 marks]
4. Show how a teacher can use ‘The River Between’ to effectively teach various
reading skills. [20 marks]
5. “Extensive reading is a pre-requisite to creative writing.” Discuss this statement
in the light of the integrated approach of teaching English language in Secondary
school in Kenya. [20 marks]
