Attempt all questions in Section A and any two questions in Section B.
Section A: 30 Marks
Q1. (a) Briefly indicate any five ways in which the camel sector is likely to contribute to
the overalldevelopment of this country. [5 marks]
(b) Mention any three camel breeds presently found in Kenya. [3 marks]
Q2. Suggest three ways in which the occurrence of trypanosomiasis can be prevented in camel production. [6 marks]
Q3. Define the term “oestrus” and advise a beginner how he or she can identify a camel that is on oestrus. [8 marks]
Q4. Explain the term “selection” and state any three desirable characteristics you would consider in an effort to improve a herd of camels for milk production. [8 marks]
Section B: 40 Marks
Answer any two questions in this Section
Q5. (a) Global warming is now an established reality and the world’s deserts are likely
to advance. Citing some reason(s) state how this is likely to affect the population and distribution of camels in the world. [4 marks]
(b) Explain the various drought coping strategies you would advise a pastoralist
to adopt. [16 marks]
Q6. Identify the main sources of milk contamination and explain how one can improve on the competitiveness of camel milk both in the local and international markets. [20 marks]
Q7. Suggest various ways in which one can reduce the high mortality that is normally experienced in camel calf rearing. [20 marks]
