SECTION A (30 MARKS)
Q1. Define the following terms. [3 marks]

Q2. (a) Outline the link between poverty and environmental degradation. [3 marks]
(b) Briefly discuss the ‘tragedy of the commons’ using community grazing
pasture as an example. [3 marks]

Q4. Briefly discuss the link between economic development and environmental
degradation. [3 marks]

Q8. Describe Polluter-Pays principle and Precautionary principle in the protection of the environment in order to achieve sustainable development. [4 marks]

Q11. Developing countries like Kenya relies heavily on natural resources for development. Citing examples, discuss natural resources in Kenya and how they contribute to economic development of the country. [20 marks]
Q12. (a) Discuss how gender inequalities hinder development. [10 marks]
(b) Climate change is one of the major challenges of development in both developed and developing countries. Discuss how climate change affects people and the environment. [10 marks]
