Question 1
The relationship between the State, the Private Sector and Society has been described as one full of mistrust particularly in the African continent. Discuss this statement taking into account the role the government is supposed to play in a market economy to realize economic development and growth and uplift the standards of living of its people? (25 marks)

Question 2
State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) became an integral part of developing countries’ public administrations in the 1960s upto 1980s. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the formation of SOE’s with specific reference to your country and give three reasons why privatization of these enterprises was considered necessary? (25 marks)

Question 3
It is recognized globally that foreign investment can play an important role both in developed and developing economies. Discuss briefly the measures being taken to attract foreign investment in your country. (25 marks)

(a) State six sources of revenue for the government (9 marks)

(b) Discuss the role played by the local authorities in promoting the business environment in your country (16 marks)

(a) The difference between liberalization and globalization. (7 marks)

(b) The difference between market externalities and external benefits. (7 marks)

(c) The difference between a pure public good and a public good. (7 marks)

(d) The characteristics of a good tax system. (4 marks)

Global warming has been described in international for a as a threat to mankind. Discuss this topical subject of globalization and explain its origin and impact on the environment and give suggestions on how governments both in developed and developing countries can deal with it. (25 marks)
