INSTRUCTION TO CANDIDATES.
1. Write your name and index number at the top right hand corner of each printout.
2. Write your name and index number on the diskette/Removable media.
3. Write the name and version of the software used for each question attempted in the answer sheet.
4. Answer all the questions.
5. All questions carry equal marks.
6. Passwords should not be used while saving in the diskette/Removable media.
7. All answers must be saved in your diskette/Removable media.
8. Make a printout of the answers on the answer sheets provided.
9. Arrange your printouts and tie/staple them together.
10. Hand in all the printouts and the diskette/Removable media.
This paper consists of 4 printed pages. Candidates should check carefully
to ascertain that all the pages are printed as indicated and no questions are missing.
1. (a) According to statistics collected recently from a survey in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, there has been an increase in the number of women entering IT industry since the eighties. In 1980’s in Uganda there were 150 systems analysists and 230 programmers, in Tanzania there were 120 systems analysists and 210 programmers while in Kenya there were 270 systems analysists and 440 programmers.
(b) Represent the above information on a spreadsheet and save it as A:\IT - 1. (10mks)
(c) Compute the number of programmers and systems analysists in the three countries in the 1990s given that the programmers and system analysists increased by 28.7% and 9.5% respectively. Round off the computed values of the nearest whole number. (9mks)
(d) Compute the number of programmers and system analysists in the three countries in the 2000s given that programmers decreased 3.3% while system analysists increased by 9.7% from the previous period. Round off the computed values to the nearest whole number. (9mks)
(e) Add a label ‘PROGRAMMERS TO ANALYSTS RATIO’ and calculate this ration for each of the three countries for the periods 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s rounded to 2 decimal places. (5mks)
(f) Due to a shortfall of programmers in Uganda, the government decided to hire programmers from Kenya. The family of each programmer hired was to be paid 350 sterling pounds. The exchange rate was KShs.40 for 1 pound in 1980s, and KShs.56 for 1 pound in 1990s, add a label called ‘AMOUNT SPENT ON HIRED PROGRAMMERS’ and calculate how much was spent in each period. Save the worksheet as A: IT _2. (10mks)
(g) Using a column graph, represent the number of programmers in Kenya in 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. The title of the graph should be ‘KENYA FEMALE PROGRAMMERS’. (5mks)

(a) Create a database that can be used to store the above data. Save your work as HITECH - 1. (l2mks)
(b) Create appropriate primary keys and set a one to many relationships between the tables. (10mks)
(c) Enter the data into the database. (6mks)
(d) Create a report that displays the Employee, Department Name and salary. (8mks)
(e) It is required that the dates on which the employees were hired be included in the database. Tirop was hired on 13/06/93, Mwema was hired on 15/08/98, Ali was hired on 6/03/96, Onyango was hired on 19/03/93, the rest were hired on 13/03/93. Include these details into the deatabase. Save your work as HITECH _2. (l0mks)
(f) Sort the records in HITEH - 2 in an ascending order of the salary and save as EMPLOYEE 1. (2mks)
