a)Define the term information system and describe the components of an information system.

b)Explain the strategic role of an information system in an organization.(10 marks)
c)Data security cannot be overlooked when developing a new system. Discuss what is data
security and the various approaches to data security(10 marks)



Question Two
a) Management Information Systems are systems for providing information for managers. Describe
levels of management in an organization and the management information systems required by
these managers.(10 marks)
b) Explain the characteristics of information systems requirements at the various levels of
management.(10 marks)




Question Three
Define the term Database Management System (DBMS). What are some of the reasons for
implementing a database system?(10 marks)

a) Define the term systems approach and hence explain the seven steps that one would carry out in
systems approach.(10 marks)

Question Four
a) Distinguish computer hardware from software. In reference to a Supermarket identify the various
hardware and software requirements for computerizing the organizations operations.(10 marks)

b) Briefly explain the stages of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). (10 marks)
